Coming out of a tunnel from underground train up to Sunnegga Paradise portion of the ski area. Train left from directly across from hotel. The next several pics are an attempt to show the large panorama, but I think I went a little apeshit on the number of pics. Sorry.
One of my favorite pics. I never got tired of that view. This was part of a small ski school in the area. Imagine having that view every day at work. Rough.
Some photos going the other direction showing the vast panorama.
Same again. You can tell the snow got pretty sloppy and wet and it wasn't quite ready to be groomed when they groomed it (the vertical tears in the slope show this).
There were a couple named runs through this area but obviously not skiable at the time.
Blauherd area with Partrullarve chairlift, the Blauherd-Rothorn tram, and the Sunnegga-Blauherd gondola on the right.
Top of Blauherd-Rothorn tram. Several pics showing the panorama.
This is easier. Matterhorn in the middle and Dent Blanche on the right.
Briethorn is tallest peak with smaller Pollux and Castor to the left. Probably going to be hard to see in the quality of the pics posted on the site.
Liskamm Mountain (the large ridge shaped mountain on the right) and Monte Rosa, the large group of peaks on the left. Monte Rosa is about 80 meters higher than the Matterhorn, but not near as dramatic.
Monte Rosa on the right and Cimi di Jazzi in middle wth the Findelgletcher coming down below Cimi di Jazzi.
Findelgletscher winding down from Cima di Jazzi (low peak on right) with the three larger peaks on the left being Adlerhorn, Strahlhorn, and Rimpfischhorn (right to left).
Close up of Monte Rosa with the ridge of the Stockhorn in front.
Looking at the top of the Gant-Hohtalli tram with part of Liskamm and Castor (l) and Pollux (r) behind.
Gives you an idea of the vertical distance and the closeness of the valley Zermatt sits in.
The Rotweng ski run. Pretty wide open and not very steep (25 degrees at most). Fun run but somewhat icy in the am.
Rotweng ski run again. Plateau starts very wide and funnels down to a cattrack. Not much fun there in large crowds.
Top of Gant-Hohtalli tram looking down on White Hare ski run. Not much room. Maybe they meant White Hair?
Looking back at Rothorn paradise ski area with Alphubel on right and Taschhorn on left on the skyline.
Looking at top of Gornergrat train station and Gornergrat Hotel complex. No way to get there except by the train now. The little tram between the Gornergrat and the top of the Gant-Hohtalli tram is now gone.
On the east side of the Gant-Hohtalli tram there were two more baby trams, one going to top of Triftji drag lift at the Rote Nase, and the longer one going only to a smaller subpeak of the Stockhorn (the ridgeline behind the tram). Kinda nonsensical. Now the Hohtalli-subStockhorn tram is gone also, they kept the shorter tram, and now have a drag lift to the top of the Stockhorn proper from down on the plateau. Talk about a nutcracker.
Lower part of Gornergrat ski area. You can see its not very steep.
The Gornergrat Hotel had functioning astronomy telescopes. Makes sense when you realize it is at 3089 meters and has easy train access.
