First day on snow at Lech. Riding the Schlosskopf chair and looking at buildings and homes above Lech.
Riding the Petersboden six pack chair above Oberlech. There was a conveyor belt system loading skiers onto the chair so you didn't have to pole to get up to speed. Really neat.
Looking towards Lech and the Rufikopf trams in the background. Standing at top of the Schlegelkopf-Rudalpe-Lech ski run (say that five times fast.)
Stitch photo from top of Kriegerhorn chair, looking west with Omeshorn on left and the Spullerschafberg in the middle.
The Steinmahder chair going to the Zuger Hochlicht with the Braunarlspitze on the left and the Mohnenfluh on the right.
Standing on the Kriegerhorn looking down at Oberlech and the Petersboden chair and the Karhorn on the left.
Kriegerhonr chair with the Rufispitze in the background. The Osthang ski route is below the chair. It is rated an extreme ski route. Ski routes are neither patrolled nor groomed. This run was quite mellow with only the very top presenting any challenge (perhaps 40 degrees) with the remainder being about 30 degrees. Very fun with 15 inches of new snow.
Another photo of the Osthang ski route. This is on the same run but what a difference when you looked to the west like this. Hard to believe this was early April.
The Osthang ski route. You can see from here that it isn't that bad.
Stitch photo from the Schlegelkopf chair with the Kriegerhorn on the right and the Spullerschafberg in the distance. Day started out pretty crappy with clouds and flat light and this is what it ended up with.
Another stitch photo from Schlegelkopf chair with Kriegerhorn, Spullerschafberg, and Omeshorn (R to L).
Some of the thick forest next to the Schlegelkopf chair. Closed to tree skiing and very high fines if you do ski it (up to 2500 euros).
Kriegerhorn from Schlegelkopf chair and the Schlegelkopf-Rudalpe-Lech ski run. Pretty mellow, perhaps 25 degrees at steepest but quite wide: almost 500 meters I estimate so great for going wicked fast so long as it isn't crowded. Also well groomed. It did roll off to a steeper 35 degrees just above Lech so not much fun for beginners. This is actually a ding against the resort according to many guidebooks.
Stitch photo from top of Kriegerhorn; Omeshorn is in the middle; photo is from southwest on right to northeast on left.
Looking down the Zuppert ski route. Fun run in new snow with about 15 inches new powder; turned to mashed potatoes at bottom so reduced to jump turns and kick turns to get to lift. About 38 degrees.
Looking west at the bottom of the Steinmahder chair. The slope directly below me is the Furkawang ski route. Not many folks were skiing it.
Looking at top of the Hasensprung chair in the middle distance with the Rotschrofen chair in the far distance. Mohnenfluh mountain on the left with Widderstein on the right.
Looking southwest with part of the Kriegeralpe-Petersboden ski run in the foreground.
Looking back up the Zuppert ski route. Not terribly steep perhaps 40 degrees tops. Not many folks skiing it; one other group of five guys was it.
Spullerschafberg mountain with the hamlet of Zug below. You can just make out the bottom station of the Zugerberg chair next to the Lech river.
Same again. Amazing blue skies and white snow. One of my favorite pics.
Zug with Omeshorn in back on left. Directly below the Omeshorn is the Madloch-Zug ski route. It was closed this particular day because of strong winds and a lot of new snow.
Spullerschafberg towering above Zug. The bitter end of the Zugertobel ski route. A ski route from hell; last kilometer is almost dead flat and a skate back to the ski lift. Not much fun in wet snow or for snowboarders (the day I skied this run I saw a half-dozen snowboarders trudging along to the ski lift.)
The neat village of Zug. Not much going on here; glad I stayed in Lech.
Looking towards Lech from Zugerberg chair with the Wosterspitze in middle behind double trams, and Rufispitze on right.
Looking east from top of Steinmahder chair at the start of the Mohnenmahder ski run. Pretty mellow, perhaps 25 degrees at steepest.
Quite windy on the Sulzen ski run. Little steeper but more folks skiing it so not as good as you would think.
Stitch photo from top of Steinmahder chair looking north. Standing on the Mohnenmahder ski run. The Karhorn is in the middle in the distance.
Riding the Weibermahd triple chair with Rotschrofen chair closer, and the Hasensprung chair in the far distance.
