Putting stuff away for the summer. Staff were moving the snowguns from their mounts and storing them in an underground storage garage.
They used a copter to move the snowguns.
First run of the vacation. Looking towards Pontresina. Snow was softening up already and it was only about 10:30 in the morning.
Looking east towards Piz Vadret (L) and Piz Muragl (R). Pretty flat ski runs on SE side of Corviglia ski area.
Looking south towards Piz Corvatsch and Piz Murtel and the Corvatsch/Furtschellas ski area.
Left to right: Piz de Staz, Piz Mezdi, Piz Rosatsch, Piz s. Gian, and Piz Surlej. Not much difference b/n them but maybe 100 feet so hard to tell them apart.
Salastrains lift on left; on the main Corviglia Run. It was considered a red or medium difficulty run. Some nice rollers and some steeper portions (25 degrees) but quite wide (100 yards).
Salastrains Lift on right; Corviglia Run again.
Looking towards villages of Silvaplana (r) and Surlej (l) and ski area of Corvatsch/Furtschellas. The ski slope in the foreground was nice and wide (approx. 100 meters wide) and about 30 degrees in steepness.
Looking west to the peak of Piz Nair.
Piz Guglia (3380.4 meters, right) and Piz Albana (3100 meters, left.)
Piz de la Margna (3159 meters) is the large peak in the background.
Mountains of the Engadine range.
Looking at the Pascul Sass Nair area of the Val Saluoer (Saluoer Valley) with Piz dal Buz on right and Piz Ot the large pyramid peak in the back.
The Val dal Selin with Las Trais Fluors (2910 meters) at the head of the valley. There were a couple ski runs going down this valley but all were melted out.
Looking west up to the Val Schlattain on the left. You can't see it with the resolution of this photo but the Schlattain Run goes right down the middle of this valley from the top of Fuorcia Grischa. I was riding the Trais Fluors chairlift.
Same from farther up the chair.
Looking south from top of Las Trais Fluors area, just downhill from top of Trais Fluors chairlift.
Looking SE with Trais Fluors chair in foreground.
Riding the Gluna chair looking at Gluna run, a definite black (difficult) run. Not many skiers probably because of thin cover. Piz Corviglia on left, Piz Gluna on right.
Avalanche protection for one of the lift towers of the Gluna ski lift.
looking SE from top of Gluna chair. Part of the Chuderas ski run is visible in the foreground. Very nice run with a few smaller whoop de doos and some great carving. A pure red (medium difficulty) run about 2 miles long and about 50 yards wide at its narrowest. Steepest point was approximately 20 degrees.
Part of the Chuderas ski run; it continues to the left and down the valley.
Looking towards town of Samedan from Saluver Talabfahrt Celerina ski run. Pretty darn brown and snow free from about last quarter of elevation down.
Looking almost due south and back uphill from same ski run. Because the snow level was pretty high (it was a bad snow year and warm), you really couldn't wander off the piste very much. As this run went further downhill, it got progressively narrower but it did widen out at the end. A red run with some black portions (only about 20 feet wide in some places) and very slushy.
Riding the Celerina-Marguns gondola back up to Marguns area of Corviglia
A little product placement. "Stoeckli! The Swiss ski!"
Celerina-Marguns gondola. Photo a little caddywhumpus because I stuck the camera out the window and took the photo.
Approaching the Marguns area of Corviglia ski area.
Riding the Trais Fluors chair and looking at the Selin ski run. Not much snow and no skiers. A black run for sure but not terribly steep (35 degrees max.)
Standing at top of Trais Fluors chair looking south; the Marguns Corviglia quad chair is on the side of the nearer valley and is just visible.
The ridgeline of Piz Nair in the background going left to right with the peak of Piz Nair in the middle of the photo; Piz Schlattan to the right; and Piz Grisch on the farthest right. The ski run Mezzauna is in the foreground. It was a red run with some moderately steep pitches (30 degrees) and some portions of the run being a double fall line. It also had a part which was slightly uphill so a fair amount of speed was necessary to make it up that portion.
Slightly downhill on the same run with the Marguns Corviglia lift (left) and Plateau Nair lift (right) just visible on the middle ridge. I don't think the photo resolution is that great. Don't forget to visit fbskier.picturepush.com for the full size photos.
Looking towards Pontresina from the top of the Trais Fluors chair.
Looking at the Champion ski run with Piz Corvatsch in the background left. Again the detail is not great but there are people skiing the run and from their size the run must be 150 to 200 meters wide.
Zoom in photo of the mountains on the south side of the En Valley.
Another zoom in photo. You can see several glaciers on the farthest peaks.
Yours truly with the Val Schlattan in the background. You get some idea of the huge sweep of the ski area from this photo but this only shows about 20 percent of the ski area.
Photo of the Fuorcla Grischa chair (left) and Gluna chair (right) with the Fuorcla Grischa ski run in the middle with all the bumps. This was taken from the Princess ski run.
Looking at the ridgeline of Piz Nair from the Fuorcla Grischa chair. The Fuorcla Grischa ski run is in the foreground.
